Steve Liskow

Steve's Favorite Writers

This is changing all the time, and I know I'll leave people out, but I need a good story with richly-realized characters and an interesting voice.

I read some people just for the sheer magic of their words. Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian is illogical and unbelievable with outrageous characters, but the language is the most amazing I've read in years.

Some, like Don Winslow or Chuck Palahniuk, can take you places you never thought you'd go in your wildest dreams, and show you how going over the top with a character can really strengthen your work.

This list is constantly changing as someone points me toward a new writer I should have discovered long ago.

Anyway, here are a lot of the people I read, in no particular order:

Laura Lippman
S.J. Rozan
Dennis Lehane
Karin Slaughter
Tana French
Don Winslow
Thomas Perry
Jennifer Crusie
Joe Hill
